Family Services

CentroNía is committed to supporting parents in their role as their child’s first and most important teacher. We build strong relationships with families to support their well-being and create positive parent/child relationships so both can learn and grow together.

Support

Through partnerships with other trusted community service providers in DC and Maryland, CentroNía works to ensure families find the services they need in the languages they speak. These services include:

  • Legal aid
  • Tax clinics
  • Health care services
  • Financial assistance
  • Counseling
  • Immigration support
  • Case management, and more

Education

CentroNía develops, curates parent workshops, and training according to the needs of our community. These opportunities allow families to learn about a wide range of topics from parenting skills, child development, employment readiness, adult education, computer classes, and English language courses.

Relief

CentroNía also provides concrete relief for our most vulnerable families, including diapers and pull-ups, infant formula, food, hygiene supplies, clothing, toys, and much more.

The children and families in our community have been especially vulnerable to the social, health, and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, which have disproportionately affected the vulnerable community we serve. This has increased our families’ need for services that support familial wellbeing.

Since March 2020, CentroNía has dramatically expanded community outreach and family support services, distributing:

diapers and hygiene products

pounds of fresh produce

personal protective equipment packets

Additionally, as of June 2021, 1,300 community members received free onsite COVID-19 testing and vaccines at CentroNía’s Maryland site.

And over 500 referrals were completed for services at our Maryland site, including:

  • Book bank donations
  • Public school updates
  • Food stamps/WIC
  • Health insurance
  • Rent or utilities assistance
  • Small business grant assistance
  • Unemployment
  • Internet
  • Free health clinics
  • Eviction assistance
  • Free legal assistance
  • Crisis response
  • Intervention services
  • Support groups
