Feature Image for CentroNía Friends & Volunteers: Field School post

One of CentroNía’s wonderful partnerships has been with our friends at Field School. What started almost 10 years ago has become a great way for 6th graders to interact with our early learners and our students to make impactful friendships with those who visit their classrooms.

Ms. Karin, Spanish teacher and Chair of the Language Department at Field School currently leads this tradition.

Read below to see what she had to say about her experience with us!

For the past 8 years, it's been a tradition for Field School's 6th-grade students to visit CentroNía. It all started when Ermira Elmazaj, our French teacher and former Department Chair, came up with the idea to introduce our new students to the center. Since then, she's led these visits every year, except for the break during the COVID-19 pandemic. But as soon as it was safe, we resumed the partnership, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come.

One of the most impactful aspects of our partnership with CentroNía is the chance for our 6th-grade students to learn and interact alongside younger children in the classroom. Being with younger children at CentroNía teaches our 6th graders empathy, patience, and leadership. They quickly see how they can positively influence the younger students, not just academically, but also as mentors. Through these interactions, our students grasp the importance of communication, adaptability, and understanding diverse perspectives. The multicultural environment at CentroNía deepens our students' appreciation of diversity and inclusion, fostering unity and respect within and beyond the classroom.

As an educator, seeing our students grow and develop through their experiences at CentroNía is incredibly fulfilling. It reaffirms that education goes beyond textbooks and classrooms, encompassing real-world interactions and community engagement.

Thank you, CentroNía, for this valuable opportunity!

Thank you Ms. Karin and to the many students at Field School for taking the time to befriend our early learners and the CentroNía community!
