Dear Friends,

As we celebrate the holidays and set our sights on a hopeful new year, I want to take a moment to reflect on all that has happened within the CentroNía community in 2021.

This year, as we navigated the impacts of the pandemic and began to recover, we saw once again just how essential are early childhood education services.

The historic, newly-renovated building of Stevens ELC.

CentroNía is committed to providing early childhood services that are high-quality, affordable, and accessible because we know how important these services are–not only for the children we serve but for their families and the wider community as well.

As part of this commitment, CentroNía partnered with DC Public Schools to open Stevens Early Learning Center this past spring, making our services accessible to even more children and their families!

We were excited to see this dedication to early childhood reaffirmed by policymakers when CentroNía had the honor of welcoming Vice President Kamala Harris to our Columbia Road center in June, and when Congressman Anthony Brown met with parents and teachers to discuss the Child Tax Credit at our Maryland center in July, and when I was invited to the White House for a small group discussion on the impact of the pandemic in the Latino community in September.

This year, we also shared a mother’s story about how finding CentroNía helped her pursue her career and inspired a love of learning in her children. We learned about how one of our teachers–who has been with us for fifteen years!–first found her love of teaching at our centersAnd just last week, we heard how affordable, bilingual care at CentroNía made it possible for a mother to reunite with her sons.

Herlinda and her family.

You–our incredible donors, staff, volunteers, and supporters–are the ones who make all this possible. With your help, CentroNía will continue to be a safe, supportive place for over 2,400 children and their families.

Once again, I’m grateful beyond words for your support and look forward to our continued journey to deliver high-quality education and serve the needs of even more low-income, working families in 2022!
