There’s an exciting new addition to CentroNía’s Columbia Rd center: a Little Free Library!

Created through a partnership with Van Metre Companies and Everybody Wins DC, this book-sharing box is part of a special initiative by Little Free Library called Read in Color. Through Read in Color, LFL and its partners aim to bring diverse books to book-sharing boxes around the world, providing readers of all ages with stories from historically marginalized voices.

Read in Color’s vision is one close to CentroNía’s heart. As an early childhood organization that primarily serves families from marginalized populations, we understand the importance of children and adults alike having access to stories in which they can recognize themselves and their experiences.

CentroNía was honored to host the kickoff event for the Washington, DC launch of the Read in Color initiative. This book-sharing box outside of 1420 Columbia Rd is the first in the series of libraries that will be placed throughout DC, bringing more than 4,600 diverse books to neighborhoods in our city to help promote understanding, equity, and inclusion. We’re thrilled to be part of this wonderful initiative!

Watch CentroNía President & CEO Myrna Peralta talk with NBC4 about CentroNía’s participation in Read in Color.

Anyone is welcome to come by CentroNía’s Columbia Rd center to see the library in person, pick up a book, or donate one of their own!
