On May 14, 2021 CentroNía Maryland hosted its first annual Cooking Competition! Children, families, and staff came together virtually over Zoom to watch three volunteer parents showcase their culinary skills to the CentroNía community. CentroNía judges sampled the diverse array of dishes and voted for their favorite.

Chefs gathered outside of CentroNía Maryland at outdoor cooking stations where they created their dishes and presented them to the judges. Each participant chose their ingredients from locally grown vegetables which were provided from Crossroads Farmer’s Market and other items provided by NiaCentral catering. Participating families also received a $25 voucher to Crossroad’s Farmer’s Market!

Here’s what each competitor created:

  • Chef Hana: Beef tibs with injera and salad
  • Chef Gladiz: Ground beef with brown rice and cucumber salad
  • Chef Sam: Frittata with spinach, ground beef, cheese and whole wheat tortilla; chayote and tomato salad, and tomatillo salsa

Congratulations to our winner Chef Sam! His frittata dish will be featured in CentroNía’s June menu!

Huge thanks to all participants, judges and attendees for making this event a great success. We hope to see you all next year!
