Dear CentroNía Parents,

We hope you are safe and healthy at this time! We are happy to inform all our families that CentroNía Columbia Road and Upshur are scheduled to re-open, on a staggered basis and modified schedule, starting June 8, 2020!

The Cardozo site continues to be closed as it is located in a public school building; and we are still awaiting guidance from the Maryland State Department of Education regarding the reopening dates for our MD site. CentroNía Columbia Road and Upshur continue to work diligently to prepare the spaces and training our staff to welcome all of you back in a safe and organized way. We expect you will have questions and we will answer them soon in a parent forum before re-opening; please stay alert for the invitation. In the meantime, please direct your questions to our Admissions Director, Lisa Rivera at

Here are the new schedules, dates, and procedures for the summer months, including the more rigorous health and safety protocols CentroNía implemented in response to COVID-19:

Classrooms will be organized to accommodate only 8 children with 2 adults at all times (you will receive more details related to groupings and classrooms later). Teachers will wear face masks and will practice social distancing in a developmentally appropriate manner. The Columbia Road and Upshur classes will have a staggered opening:

Monday, June 8Infant Classrooms*
Wednesday, June 10Toddler Classrooms** and Jr Pre-K
Monday, June 15Pre-K Summer Program only***
*The Columbia Road infant classrooms that are divided, for the time being with furniture, will be treated as one classroom and the other group will be relocated.

**Toddler groups with more than 8 children will be divided and regrouped in different space.

***Since PreK school program ends on May 29, according to the updated DCPS calendar, we will provide the regular summer program

Modified hours of service will be from 7:30am to 3:30pm until further notice and may be adjusted in response to developments with COVID-19.

Access to the buildings will be limited to control the amount of staff and visitors and enforce social distancing.  Children will be dropped-off and picked-up using both front and rear entrances stations for COVID-19/health screening. We recommend connecting with Admissions, the Family Center, Directors and Teachers virtually, if at all possible. Parents may enter for scheduled appointments only if conference calls are not an option.

Strict health screening measures will be implemented. Staff and children who exhibit symptoms during the day will be separated immediately; affected children will need to be picked up as soon as possible.

Spaces and materials will be disinfected daily; deep cleanings will take place as needed.

All our staff is being trained in health and safety protocols, which are based on recommendations from the Center from Disease Control (CDC) and local health and government agencies. The protocols will be shared with parents before reopening, along with updated information on changes regarding curriculum and daily classroom routines.

To facilitate adequate transitions and plan for the new school year, we need you to respond to this online survey.

Thank you for your continuous support and we look forward to seeing all our children, families and staff reconnect, even under these limiting and difficult conditions.
