CentroNía is excited to introduce its newest Board Member Nidya Sarria. Born and raised in Miami, Nidya moved to DC three years ago. Currently, she serves as Senior Press Officer at Amnesty International USA, a global movement of people fighting injustice and promoting human rights at home and abroad. In this role, Nidya generates media coverage around stories that demonstrate the human impact of international and public policy.

This interest in the human impact of policy motivated Nidya to look for ways to support working families here in our community. She was thrilled to meet with CentroNía President and CEO Myrna Peralta during a board match event, where they discussed the importance of early childhood education to families across the DC area. Later she also had the opportunity of visiting CentroNía’s site at Columbia Road where she saw first-hand the impact CentroNía has on the lives of many children and their families.

“Supporting families with young children is the best way to strengthen a community,” Nidya said. “One of the things that attracted me most is CentroNía’s holistic approach of supporting not only the children’s educational development, but also the well-being of their families.”

As part of CentroNía’s Board of Directors, Nidya hopes to share her experience in media relations and communications to increase awareness about CentroNía and the impact of their high-quality, affordable early childhood education and support services for low-income, working families in the greater Washington region. She is delighted to join the team.

Outside of work, Nidya likes to practice yoga, cook, and walk her dogs. Welcome to the CentroNía family, Nidya!
