The holiday season gives families opportunities to spend quality time together and build rich memories that can last a lifetime. For many families, the extra expense of the holidays can be a burden. This is why every year at CentroNía, through the Adopt-A-Family program, local organizations and community partners came together to make the holidays a little less stressful for families who need it most in our community. This year, CentroNía partnered with GW Honey W. Nashman Center for Civic Engagement and Public Service, St. Augustine Catholic Church, and CentroNía’s Board of Directors to provide holiday gifts for 63 families in D.C. and Maryland.
Every year, CentroNía teachers and site coordinators nominate families based on need to be participants in the program. “With this initiative, every year I’m reminded of the great work we do with our community” said Michael Yacob, CentroNía’s Family Center Manager. “We are so thankful for the hard work and generosity of our donors. These gifts help families know that we care and opens the door for deeper conversations about education and family concerns.”
“CentroNía, thank you very much for all you do” said Elsa Vargas, mother of two children enrolled at CentroNía. “You cannot imagine how grateful my family is to be part of CentroNía, because indeed CentroNía is like a family for us. You always are there to support us and now thank you for the donation my kids were beyond happy and if they are happy, I am happy. Thank you very much and God bless you all” she added.
Thanks to our partners and their entire community for their generosity and support of CentroNía’s most vulnerable families.
