CARSEAT DONATION EVENT!

Saving Children’s Lives
Corazon De Mi Vida, a bilingual educational program on passenger safety comes to DC

Washington, DC—On Saturday, March 25, 2006, CentroNía and Nationwide Insurance presented Corazon De Mi Vida, a bilingual car seat clinic program created by Nationwide in partnership with the National Latino Children’s Institute to educate the Latino family about the importance of adult and child passenger safety. Activities will include donation of 55 child seats to Latino families, parent workshops, child seat inspections and safety demonstrations.

"If we safe one child’s life thanks to this event, we would feel that this type of educational campaigns are worthy. We are very thankful to Nationwide for coming directly into our community where our families really need this information," said Beatriz Otero, Executive Director at CentroNía.

Nationwide is consistently playing a proactive role in safety issues. We feel that through this program we can positively impact this community and help save lives," said Ed Cooper, Regional Vice President for Nationwide's Mid-Atlantic region.

Demonstrations on the use of child safety seats and their installation in vehicles took place during the event by certified volunteers from the DC Department of Transportation to determine whether their child safety seats are properly installed. In preparation to the event, parents attended educational workshops a few days in advance.

DC Department of Transportation volunteers helped parents with the car seats inspection and installation from beginning to end.
Executive Director Beatriz Otero asked the audience to give more importance to the issue of child passenger safety: “It’s not acceptable to bring any child on our lap when traveling by car.”
