Facilities Support Assistant-PT
Department: Facilities and Administration

Primary Purpose of the Job:
The facilities assistant is a member of the Facility Support Team and as such is responsible to assist the school administration in providing the most desirable environment for the educational program at CentroNía, and CentroNía. In carrying out these responsibilities, the facilities assistant performs semi-skilled building and equipment maintenance tasks; assists building manager on major repairs and carry out cleaning duties within the frequency determined by his/her supervisor.

Essential Duties:
Building Maintenance, Repairs and Conference Set-up

1. Assists with plumbing, electrical jobs, carpentry, mechanical and other works.
2. Assists in moving and setting up of staging; as well as other equipment and machinery.
3. Participate in general cleaning of the school building and facilities (inside/outside building).
4. Report emergencies, or breakage to building manager, or operations coordinator.
5. Lift cartons, boxes weighing in excess of 40 lbs; move furniture or equipment to assigned Location.
6. Clean-up pumps in basketball court and kitchen area as instructed.
7. Set-up conference rooms for meetings as assigned by supervisor; clean-up conference rooms after meetings.

Safety and Security/Driving

1. Open and closed CentroNia on days and times assigned.
2. Direct traffic outside building on Columbia Road and parking lot entrance when needed.
3. Inspect building daily for loose carpet, broken items, pipe damage, leakage, and other problems.
4. Drives staff as assigned.

Working with People

Required Experience:

Development Associate

CentroNía is seeking a Development Associate who will assist in the implementation of a development plan that will generate national and local support from foundations, corporations, public sector sources and individuals. The Associate will be an integral member of a 5-person development team.

Responsibilities
• Assist in the implementation of strategies to raise funds from foundations, corporations, local and federal government sources and individuals in support of high growth for the next 5 years.
• Work closely with Program and Finance staff to write, submit, and track grant proposals and reports.
• Help with the launch of a major donor program.
• Play a prominent role in a development team that works closely with the staff and Board of Directors.
• Manage CentroNía’s participation in the in-house and external United Way/CFC Campaign.
• Assist in the development, writing, and editing of annual reports, appeals, newsletter articles, website materials, and other fund raising materials.
• Assist with special events throughout the year.

Requirements
The ideal candidate will be genuinely interested and passionate about serving low-income children, youth and families in DC’s most diverse neighborhood. He/she will be a strategic, dynamic, and creative thinker who knows how to work in a development department responsible for helping reach the organization’s budget approaching $14 million annually. S/he will have 3-5 years of demonstrated success fundraising on a national and local level. Sage fundraising software familiarity a plus. Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus but not required.

Summary:

Experience Corps Washington, DC provides trained literacy tutors and classroom assistants at six District of Columbia public elementary schools during the school day. With funding from both public and private sources, the project plans to expand to additional schools over the next two years. Experience Corps is hosted in Washington, DC by CentroNía. CentroNía offers quality education and family support programs to hundreds of families in the Washington, DC area. Today, the organization serves infants, toddlers, preschoolers, youth, families, and manages the DC Bilingual Public Charter School. CentroNía began hosting Experience Corps in Washington in August, 2006.

Operations and Data Administrator is a full-time exempt position that reports to the Director of the local Washington, DC project and works in close partnership with other staff as well as volunteers. We are seeking individuals with the skills and temperament to work effectively with a diverse array of constituents, including people in low-income communities and older adults.

Primary Responsibilities:

Data Administration includes but is not limited to:

- Collect volunteer information
- Track program data from all the program sites
- Develop and implement efficient data systems for a multi-site program

Classes begin October 15 and end June 2007; out of school time hours are Monday through Thursday from 2:00-6:00pm.

To work with the CentroNía Management Team in running the Harvard Street Pre-K as an integral part of the Early Childhood Education Department. Essential Duties:
1. Human Resources:
• To collaborate with the CentroNía Management Team in the orientation of new staff as well as in monitoring and supporting them during their probationary period, etc.

• National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC):
• CentroNía: To support the personnel in complying with program policies and procedures.

Bilingual Family Support Specialists (Maryland Site)

Program: Operations and Admissions

Primary Purpose of the Job:
The primary responsibility of the Bilingual Family Support Coordinator Family is to recruit, retain and work with Montgomery County families from underserved communities. The BFSC will have knowledge of community resources available within Montgomery County; principles and practice of case management and crisis intervention; principles of families self sufficiency. BFSC will have the ability to plan and organize events to include the Family Book Clubs. BFSC will have excellent interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy. BFSC will have the Ability to use a computer to record and retrieve data. Ability to communicate orally and in writing using correct English and Spanish usage, spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation.

• Maintain year –round recruitment and enrollment activities toward the goal of full enrollment; complete and maintain documents for enrolling children

Apprentice Teachers - DC Bilingual Public Charter School

Primary Purpose of the Job:
Apprentice teachers work with one or two classroom assisting with instruction and fully participating in the life of the classroom. They begin the year observing and assisting teachers and gradually assume more responsibility for planning and teaching as the year progresses. Apprentice teachers with the appropriate experience may take a lead role in teaching lessons along with their co-teacher. Apprentice teachers have significant opportunities to learn from their classroom teachers and the entire DC Bilingual staff. Primary Purpose of the Job:
To provide a safe, healthy and nurturing environment for the children that offers opportunities for learning and development in the different areas through the implementation of a developmentally appropriate high quality program.

Essential Duties:
• To welcome the children and families as they come in during the arrival period in the morning. To help the children get settled in and involve them in an activity of their choice.
• To monitor the health, safety, physical and emotional welfare of the children when they arrive. To ensure their well-being at all times, being alert to their strengths and needs as individuals and as a group. To keep the children under adult supervision at all times.
• To be alert to changes in behavior, clothing (by checking if they need to change it, if it is appropriate to the weather outside, if the shoelaces are tied, etc.) and physical appearance (by checking if their noses need to be wiped, if their hands or faces need to be washed, etc.) throughout the day.
• To assist the children during the period of breakfast, lunch and snack, by encouraging them to eat, helping them with utensils and foods, promoting communication among them, and encouraging appropriate table manners.
• To help the children rest and monitor their sleep during the period of naptime.
• To build and maintain a trusting relationship with the children and their families.
• To be familiar with and abide by the personnel policies and the program procedures specified in the “employment manual” and the “staff handbook”.
• To be responsible for the planning, preparation, and implementation of the curriculum activities. To submit the weekly and monthly plans to the program coordinator for approval on the set schedules. To post the plans when appropriate and maintain them organized as records of the implementation of the curriculum.
• To be responsible for the organization of the learning areas including the setup of the environment, the planning and implementation of the activities and the preparation of materials needed.
• To assist children in engaging in the activities and rotate from one area to the next. To ease the transitions from one period to the next by alerting the children about what will come next
• To create and organize activities that will stimulate the growth of the children in the areas of physical, cognitive, language, social, and emotional development, as well as in the areas of creative expression and movement, self help skills, independence, pro-social behavior, and self-regulation.
• To manage the guidance and discipline of the group according to the center policies.
• To maintain the home-base clean, free of hazards, with the materials in order, and aesthetically pleasing. To display child’s work in a neat and respectful manner.
• To keep the families informed of the daily activities of the children and program happenings through daily child report, incident or accident reports, and program calendars.
• To prepare a weekly newsletter to send to the families. To submit it to the coordinator for approval.
• To take the group to the bathroom before and after breakfast, fieldtrips, lunch, naptime, and snack. To emphasize the appropriate behaviors through educating the group about hygiene habits such as hand washing procedures, flushing, and the use of toilet paper
• To arrange for fieldtrips and ensure that the families sign the fieldtrip permission form. To submit the group’s forms to the coordinator when they are completed.
• To conduct individual parent-teacher conferences twice a year. Materials prepared for and discussed during the conferences include: the developmental checklist, the plan for individualizing, and the regular observations records of the children throughout the semester.
• To report to the coordinator any special needs or concerns about the children and staff.
To report to the coordinator any suspicion of external or internal child abuse or neglect immediately after the incident occurred.
• To attend the regularly scheduled team planning and evaluation meetings.

Required Experience:
• Two or more years of experience in the care and education of young children in a group care setting.
