CentroNía is proud to present a Creative Writing workshops series directed by Sydney March, old time poet partner of CentroNía and supported in parts by the Poets and Writers Foundation. The workshop is open to anybody interested in the field of writing. No experience necessary. This is an opportunity to even discover writing is your talent.
Adults: 15 years old and up are welcome.
Syllabus
The workshops focus on presenting hands-on, expert guidance and studies in exposition and rhetoric, with emphasis on the processes of critical thinking, reading and writing. Participants will learn to employ a variety of literary strategies and devices, in order to communicate with different audiences and for different purposes. Each writer will bring a work-in-progress, or create a new work, which on completion will be presented at a general reading to an audience comprised of members of community. An anthology of participants’ writings will be edited by the Writer-in-Residence and published copies made available for the final presentations. Participants will also read and respond to passages from selected fiction and non-fiction writings of internationally diverse authors. The workshops will function as incubators for emerging creative voices in the community and serve to foster a greater awareness of literacy and its cultural role. These creative writing workshops will also demonstrate to the community and participants, the vital function of the written expression as a tool for empowerment. The only prerequisite is the ability to read and write in English.
